Of Horns and Gadgets (ARTICLES)
The biggest breakthrough of the millennium, in my own
opinion, is the invention of cellular phones.
Not that I would dwell into its technicalities, no. In fact, I’m not a gadget savvy so, I will
dwell more on the social aspect.
I had been there when the first cellphones were invented
and, yes, throughout its evolution.
We were having a business meeting then, way back 1996. Back
then, I knew none of us owned a unit yet, but one time, while we were having a
business meeting in our place, two of my clients who were sitting in front,
just facing the sales Executive, were busily looking down their hands, and
typing things on some gadget about, who knows? Only the two of them. That was my first encounter with the antenna
Motorola’s and then came the Ericsson, and Nokia, so, the evolution. But what strikes me the most is the effect it
brought to people, especially, along with the innovations and features. Wow! How it made communication so fast and
efficient that the world seemed to become much smaller. But what strikes me even more is the ability
to make and ruin relationships.
Cellular phones aren’t the primary culprit of course, but
the ones who use them for sinister purposes.
Well, at the moment, we can’t do away with it since we came to live our
lives with it, but also came with it a way of life that is for me, so
disturbing.
Along with the greatest features of cellphones came the
creation of certain points of view that, in my own belief, will destroy
humanity itself. The disease is common
with adults, and how they make or unmake their lives. Honestly speaking, it
facilitates adultery fast. It destroys
families that easy, and pornography sells like pie.
